The declarations page checklist

One page, every field, printable. Take it to the call with your policy in front of you. No email, no download, no account.

Before you start

Get two documents out: this year’s declarations page and last year’s. A price change and a coverage change look identical on a renewal notice, and comparing the two pages is the only reliable way to tell them apart. The comparison method is here.

Check it yourselfNothing here needs a download or an email. If you want the wording for the call as well, the renewal review letter generator builds a letter and a phone script from the issues you found — also free, also ungated.

Common questions

How do I use this checklist?

Print it, then get two documents: your current declarations page and last year's. Work down the list ticking each field you have checked and writing the discrepancies in the margin. When you reach the end you have a list of specific corrections to ask for, which gets a completely different conversation from a general complaint about price.

Do I need last year's declarations page too?

It makes the exercise far more useful. A price change and a coverage change look identical on a renewal notice, and the only reliable way to tell them apart is to compare the two pages field by field. Most carriers keep several years of documents in the online account; if yours does not, ask for the prior term's declarations page.

Is there a PDF version?

This page is the version. It is styled to print cleanly from any browser, which means it works on a phone, a tablet and a desktop without a download, without a file to lose and without an email address. Use your browser's print command, or the print button on the page.

What is the single most valuable item on the list?

Whatever is out of date on your own policy, which is usually something about how the vehicle or property is actually used. Annual mileage and garaging address on auto policies, and the replacement cost inputs on home policies, are the fields most likely to have stopped being true years ago and to still be priced as though they were.
